A couple of years ago I started a photo series.
I put an ad on Craigslist seeking local musicians, met with several, and photographed them as they played, trying to capture the connection between musician and instrument. The statement for the project and several of the photos can be seen on my website.
Though this project is nothing like my usual printmaking or textile work, it’s dear to my heart for a number of reasons–I started playing the violin at the age of 10, learned to play my grandfather’s guitar around 15, and bought an accordion when I turned 19. Music has always been a source of joy for me, and I love documenting that joy in others.
So: after a two year break from photography, I’m pleased to announce that I’m going to be returning to this project. I’m currently seeking new musicians to model for me, and hopefully I’ll be able to schedule some photoshoots in the next few weeks.
