Playing Card Book

bookmaking, work in progress

Today I made a little book to practice my sewing–which as you can see still needs some work. Keeping a coptic binding at an even tension throughout is a tricky deal.

I used a deck of playing cards for the signatures. There are so many pages that the whole thing sort of fans open.Photo Jun 13, 10 52 36 PM And it must have been a pinocle deck or something, because I swear, almost half of these cards are a two of spades.Photo Jun 13, 10 53 00 PMFinal step: pressing it flat. I could go out to the studio to use the nipping press, but it’s late and I have a stack of textbooks that’ll do the job.
